The Technical Unconscious

The Technical Unconscious

The Technical Unconscious is a program that relates culture and research, exploring the relation between the technique associated with gesture and the unconscious knowledge.
As a result of this research, the Faculty of Fine Arts, of University of Porto brings to us an exhibit that invites us to reflect about art and science in a post-industrial space and city.

Taking place in Cooperativa dos Pedreiros do Porto (loosely translated as Cooperative of Stonemasons of Port) this is an opportunity to visit the former industrial site where the stone used in the construction of most emblematic buildings of Porto was quarried and crafted.

The space is now reactivated to show pieces from various artists created over a period of residence in this space for three or more weeks, always trying to explore the relationship between the quarry, art and technology. For the first time, the museum of this cooperative will also be opened to the public.

At this exhibit you will also be able to find some of our older and newer vehicles presented by the Museum of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto as part of the project “PostIndustrial Thinking Machine”.

“PostIndustrial Thinking Machine” is a project by the Museum of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) through which it is sought to collect and explore the distinct technical approaches of the post¬industrial materialities from the FEUP’s knowledge products. As a university museum, the FEUP Museum perceives in this reflection exercise a way to reexamine the meaning of its museum collections, as well as an opportunity to divulge the current research products within the museology sphere.
